The imagery we use in our communications says something about our level of professionalism. Using budget photography, cheap cameras, or iPhone photos will not present the image KID should portray to the public. With that in mind, note the following guidelines for using photography in public-facing print and web marketing materials.

Image Categories

  1. Canals and Local Scenery
  2. Outdoor Workers
  3. Office/Customer Service
  4. Facilities

Image Criteria

  1. Professional photography only (no cell phones or point-and-click camera shots)
  2. Natural color (no grayscale, sepia tone, or artificial washes)
  3. Eye contact is preferable but not required (subjects should exude calm, confidence, and approachability)
  4. Shallow depth-of-field is preferable (gives the shots a sense of focus and purpose)
  5. Use only high-resolution imagery (300dpi or greater)
  6. Avoid harsh, direct lighting (take advantage of lens flare, sun rays, etc.)
  7. Focus on human connection when people are present in a photo, not on inanimate objects (looking for smiling faces, eye contact, natural look)
